Cona Elder Law Partners Awarded Top 50 Most Influential Women on LI

Cona Elder Law’s managing partner Jennifer Cona, Esq. and partner Melissa Negrin-Wiener, Esq. have been selected as the Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business by LI Business News for 2015. Ms. Cona is a second time recipient of this prestigious award.

Launched in 2000, the program has recognized the Island’s top women professionals for business acumen, mentoring and community involvement.  The honorees are selected by a judging committee and receive a unique crystal memento at an elegant dinner held at Crest Hollow Country Club on October 22nd attended by more than 600 of the Island’s top business leaders in business, government and the not-for-profit fields.

About Jennifer Cona, Esq.

Jennifer Cona is the managing partner of Cona Elder Law, Long Island’s leading Elder Law and Estate Planning firm. Ms. Cona is rated a Super Lawyer and was rated a Top 10 Legal Eagle on Long Island by Pulse Magazine.  She has also received the Leadership in Law award from Long Island Business News.

Ms. Cona’s work involves counseling older adults and their families regarding asset preservation, Medicaid planning, estate planning, wealth transfer strategies, administration of estates, estate litigation, guardianships and special needs planning. Under Ms. Cona’s direction, the firm has expanded its health care reimbursement and recovery department; the firm currently represents over 80 nursing homes on Long Island and throughout the metropolitan New York area, making Ms. Cona’s firm one of the preeminent law firms in this practice area.  Under her guidance, the firm works to secure and ensure a payment source for long term health care, working together with both families and health care facilities to sustain quality care for seniors. 

Ms. Cona serves on the Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation (LIAF) Board of Trustees as well as the Corporate Leadership Committee of Mom-mentum, a working mothers’ advocacy organization.  She is the founder and chair of the Advanced Elder Law Focus Group, an industry think-tank.  Ms. Cona is recognized for her charitable contributions and commitment to the community.

Ms. Cona has authored numerous articles and has been featured in Newsday, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Kiplinger’s, Long Island Business News and others and is a frequent guest on television and radio programs.

She received her Juris Doctor Degree with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts Degree cum laude with high honors from William Smith College.
 

Melissa Negrin-Wiener, Esq.

A partner at Cona Elder Law, Melissa manages the Government Benefits department, concentrating her practice in the areas of Medicaid eligibility planning, asset protection planning, disability matters, guardianships, estate planning and Veterans benefits.

Ms. Negrin-Wiener currently serves as President of the Suffolk County Women's Bar Association.  As an Advanced Elder Law mediator trained by the New York Peace Institute, she is a mediator on the Nassau County Bar Association Alternative Dispute Resolution Panel.  Ms. Negrin-Wiener is a State Certified Court Evaluator and Counsel to Guardians and Incapacitated Persons and is accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Contributing to the community, she serves as Chair of Cona Elder Law Charitable Events, a not-for-profit organization committed to enhancing the quality of life for the elderly, disabled, and the underprivileged.  One of the programs she helped to launch at Cona Elder Law is Senior Dreams Come True which benefits low-income seniors.  She is also the Charities Coordinator for 100 Women Who Care About Long Island.

Ms. Negrin-Wiener has received the Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney Award from Touro Law School and the "40 Under 40 Rising Stars on Long Island" award from Long Island Business News.  A frequent lecturer at professional organizations, assisted living facilities and senior citizen groups, she has authored numerous articles and been quoted in various publications.  In addition, she has also appeared as a guest on television and New York radio programs. 

Ms. Negrin-Wiener received her Juris Doctor degree from Hofstra University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Law from Binghamton University.
