Cheryl L. Katz-Erato Selected by State Bar to Chair Important Programs

Cheryl L. Katz-Erato, a Senior Associate at the Melville-based law firm Cona Elder Law, was selected by the New York State Bar Association to educate our attorney colleagues throughout the state of New York. Ms. Katz-Erato served as Chair and speaker at a two-day NYSBA Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program entitled “Probate and Administration of Estates” in early December. On January 26^th, Ms. Katz-Erato will again be presenting to our attorney colleagues from across New York State who gather for the Annual New York State Bar Association meeting, entitled: “Better to Give or Receive? Gifting in 2022.”

The continuing legal education program that was held in early December was open to all attorneys licensed to practice law in New York state. The curriculum was designed to provide attorneys with a fundamental and practical overview of handling probate and administration proceedings and estate administration. Ms. Katz-Erato led a panel of seven experienced practitioners who were called upon to educate their peers regarding important estate topics, including preparing the estate for administration, the fundamentals of administration and probate proceedings, special and alternative forms of Letters Testamentary and proceedings, federal and New York estate and income tax issues, estate accountings and settlement options, ethical considerations, and more.

Ms. Katz-Erato joined Cona Elder Law in 2021.  Her practice is devoted exclusively to all facets of trusts and estates, probate and administration and estate litigation. She also serves as Vice Chair of NYSBA’s Surrogate’s Court Committee and is a member of its Trusts and Estates Section, and special task forces around COVID 19, and Digital/Remote Wills and Notarizations.
