Jennifer Cona Named on Long Island Business News’ 2023 Who’s Who: Women in Professional Services

Cona Elder Law Founder & Managing Partner Jennifer Cona has been named on Long Island Business News’ 2023 Who’s Who: Women in Professional Services.

Jennifer B. Cona is the founder and managing partner of Cona Elder Law, an award-winning elder law and estate planning law firm in Melville that is celebrating 25 years in business.

Cona’s practice focuses on asset protection, Medicaid planning, estate planning, probate and estate administration, estate litigation, special needs planning and guardianships. Cona also founded the firm’s Health Care Reimbursement and Recovery practice group. Under Cona’s guidance, the firm works to secure and ensure a payment source for long term health care, working together with both families and health care facilities to sustain quality care for older adults.

Cona noted that a new trend is emerging in the context of elder financial abuse – senior scams.

“Seniors are falling prey to scams perpetrated against them by foreign nationals, as well as members of their own community,” she said. “This growing industry is targeting our most vulnerable. Many seniors do not report that they have been scammed because they are embarrassed, or they fear losing their independence; they are afraid the children will take over their finances. But the more people who come forward to report scams, the more scammers can be caught and prosecuted, and the more seniors we can protect.” “We firmly believe that by exposing these malicious actors and seeking restitution on behalf of the victims, we can make a significant impact in protecting our older adults,” Cona said.

Under Cona’s direction, the firm has received the prestigious HIA-LI Business Achievement Award. Dedicating herself and her firm to corporate social responsibility, the firm has received the Outstanding Corporation Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals and was recognized as Those Who Make a Difference by HIA-LI. Cona is the founder of the firm’s own non-profit, Senior Dreams Come True, which grants wishes to lowincome seniors, from helping a senior meet basic needs to fulfilling a life-long dream.

Cona is the immediate past Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Long Island Alzheimer’s and Dementia Center and currently serves as Secretary on the Board. Cona is a New York State Certified Guardian, Court Evaluator and Counsel to incapacitated persons and is accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
