Melville, NY….April 23,
2019…Americans are living longer and retiring later and many of us, at some
point in our lives and careers, will become working caregivers for aging loved
ones.  The “average” U.S. caregiver,
according to the AARP, is a 49-year-old woman who works outside the home and
spends nearly 20 hours per week—the equivalent of another part-time
job—providing unpaid care to her mother.
An estimated 61 percent of family caregivers of adults age 50 and older
are currently employed either full-time (50 percent) or part-time (11 percent).

Sound familiar?  This common caregiver experience is leading
many women of all ages to recognize the importance of planning for their own
lives.  On June 19, 2019, Cona
Elder Law partner Melissa Negrin-Wiener will be presenting to a predominantly
female audience at the 2019 Collaborate with Edge Leadership Conference at the
Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.  The
workshop will cover the “3 P’s for Peace of Mind”– Planning for Your Future,
Preserving Your Assets and Protecting Your Family, offering specific guidelines
to educate and empower women to implement a plan that will help avoid emotional
turmoil, family discord and financial disaster. The presentation will also include
a Q & A session.

“We help individuals and
families engage in empowered elder law and estate planning decision making,”
states Negrin-Wiener.  “To that end, it’s
never too early to plan.  It’s important
to start thinking about long term care issues around age 55-60.  You never know when a crisis might occur and
you want to be prepared.”

Other presentation topics at
the Collaborate with Edge Leadership Conference include achieving gender balance
in the workplace; benefits and responsibilities of not-for-profit board
membership; how successful women negotiate; how to build alliances and excel as
a leader in a male dominated industry; and achieving financial stability and
confidence.

Established in 2014, the
Women’s Collaborative is an innovative model that encourages partnerships and
presents opportunities for the advancement of professional women and acts as a
catalyst to encourage meaningful conversations and support creative growth.
