In recognition of family caregivers who go beyond the call of duty taking care of their elderly loved ones, Cona Elder Law, a leading elder law firm based in Melville, awarded Joseph Ingino, 67 and a resident of Lindenhurst, as “Caregiver of the Year.”
A Vietnam Veteran, Joe was honored on June 9th at Cona Elder Law’s third annual Caregiver Conference held at Hofstra University. Along with a certificate presented to him at the event, Cona Elder Law made a donation in Joe’s honor to his chosen charity: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
“An extraordinary advocate for Veterans, Joe is an equally devoted caregiver to his father,” said Jennifer Cona, Esq., managing partner, Cona Elder Law. After his mom passed away a few years ago, Joe took care of all of his father’s needs when he lived alone in the community. His father who has heart problems and early dementia now resides at the Long Island State Veteran’s Home in Stonybrook. Nearly every day, Joe visits him, providing companionship and emotional support as well as handling all of his father’s extra needs.
On the Board of the LI State Veteran’s Home, Joe has been recognized for his work on behalf of Veterans. “I help new veterans who are coming home and have health care issues,” explained Joe. Joe has received the Nassau County Service Award and is in the New York State Hall of Fame for his work on behalf of Veterans. In addition, he works on legislation related to Dioxin and Agent Orange and is on the Veterans Advisory Board for Steve Israel and Kathleen Rice.
