As an elder law attorney and managing partner of Cona Elder Law, a leading LI elder law firm in Melville, Jennifer Cona, Esq., is dedicated to raising money and increasing awareness for Alzheimer’s victims and their families on Long Island. Alzheimer’s disease affects 5.4 million Americans and has devastating consequences not just for the individual but for entire families as well.
Recently, Cona and her team of 43 people raised over $8,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association LI chapter by participating in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Cona Elder Law staff, family and friends walked two miles at Belmont Lake State Park in North Babylon. Her team was recognized as the third highest fundraising team for the Long Island event.
“We walked to raise money for research and to raise awareness for this devastating disease,” says Jennifer Cona, Esq., managing partner, Cona Elder Law. “We help many clients and their families cope with Alzheimer’s from both a legal planning and a caregiver perspective.”
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, this inspiring event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to reclaim the future for millions.
CONA SERVES AS VICE CHAIR FOR LONG ISLAND ALZHEIMER’S FOUNDATION (LIAF)
For the past five years, Cona has served on the Board of Trustees for the Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation (LIAF) based in Port Washington and was appointed Vice-Chair last year. She has also been on the organization’s Legal Advisory Board for nearly 20 years.
To attract younger people and more diverse groups to get involved with LIAF’s endeavors, Cona is the event chair for LIAF’s first fundraising event of its kind: “Making Memories – Cocktails and Casino Night”. It will be held on October 19 at Carlyle on The Green, Bethpage. In this capacity, Cona has helped coordinate a team of Long Island professionals, who, as volunteers, are organizing and promoting the event. The proceeds will benefit LIAF’s Memory Fitness Center.
Another fundraising effort that Cona spearheaded at her firm this summer on behalf of LIAF was “Jeans For A Cause”. Every Friday over the summer, Cona Elder Law attorneys and staff could wear jeans to work provided they made a donation of $5 toward LIAF. At the end of the summer, the firm had raised over $1,000. Cona presented the check to Tori Cohen, LIAF’s Executive Director, in September.
