Long Island’s Most Powerful Women are Profiled on How Their Influence has Greatly Impacted the Long Island Community in a Profound Way
Jennifer B. Cona is the founder and managing partner of Cona Elder Law PLLC, an award-winning Elder Law, Trusts and Estates and Health Care law firm in Melville. She is among Long Island’s most accomplished women, exemplifying leadership in business and community outreach. Cona started her firm as a solo practice in downtown Manhattan some 23 years ago. She has since grown the firm to 30+ full-time staff members, year over year increasing profitability and earning continued recognition for excellence. Cona Elder Law attorneys are known for their thought leadership, educational initiatives, innovation and dedication to the community. The firm provides one-stop-shopping resources to clients and the public, empowering older adults to live their best lives and making Long Island a great place to live, work and age with grace. Cona’s practice addresses the convergence of a client’s legal needs with social, medical and financial needs within the family system and across generations. She promotes a holistic approach to Elder Law and Estate Planning, assisting clients with planning for a secure future, including asset protection, Medicaid planning, estate planning, wealth transfer strategies, administration of estates, estate litigation, guardianships and special needs planning. Her work includes locating the appropriate care, coordinating public and private resources to finance the cost and working to ensure the client’s right to quality care. Cona is a long-time advocate and activist for those with limited access to the legal system. She began her career at the National Organization for Women (NOW) Legal Defense and Education Fund in Washington D.C., where she lobbied on Capitol Hill. There she also served on the board of a safe house for women and children who were victims of domestic violence. Cona’s passion for helping those in need did not end when she moved to Long Island to raise her family and begin her career here. In 2007, she launched Cona Elder Law Charitable Events, a not-for-profit organization committed to enhancing the quality of life for the elderly and the underprivileged. She spearheads various community outreach programs including the Senior Dreams Come True program, which grants wishes to low-income seniors, and the Salute to Veterans program, which provides pro bono legal services to veterans. Cona is recognized by Best Lawyers in America© and is rated a Super Lawyer. She has received New York Law Journal’s Top Women in Law award and the prestigious Leadership in Law award from LIBN. |
