Melville, NY, October 22, 2018. Jennifer Cona, managing partner at Cona Elder Law, has been named to the Long Island Business News “Top 50 Women in Business” Hall of Fame. She was previously twice honored by LIBN as one of its “Top 50 Women in Business.” Launched in 2000, the award recognizes Long Island’s top women in business, education, government and the nonprofit sector for their business savvy, influential work, mentoring and community involvement. The award was presented at a gala dinner at Crest Hollow Country Club, Woodbury, NY, on October 18.
A leader in the field of elder law, Jennifer focuses on both health care facility representation, as well as representing seniors and their loved ones with the preservation of assets, Medicaid planning, estate planning, wealth transfer strategies, estate litigation, contested guardianships, and more. She has successfully argued numerous cases against healthcare budget cuts affecting the elderly, winning fair hearings and keeping benefits in place for seniors.
Under Jennifer’s leadership, Cona Elder Law is committed to empowering seniors on Long Island to embrace aging through innovative strategies and solutions. She has spearheaded various community outreach programs, including a free public annual Caregiver Conference featuring elder-care experts discussing a host of vital issues, as well as a Breakfast Series of seminars that are free to the public. Cona Elder Law has also launched an innovative elder care employee benefit program – Tools and Advice for Working Caregivers – designed to give working elder caregivers the tools they need to navigate the elder care landscape while remaining productive at work.
Along with dedicating much of her personal time to community involvement and charitable events, Jennifer has also made charitable giving and community outreach part of the very fabric of Cona Elder Law. For example, the firm’s “Senior Dreams Come True” initiative annually grants wishes to low-income seniors, from helping a senior meet basic needs to fulfilling a lifelong dream. As a team, firm members have raised money for a host of charitable causes (Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation, Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association, and more) and have participated in charitable events with Ronald McDonald House, the Harry Chapin Food Bank and the “Midnight Run” Relief Mission.
Jennifer is the recipient of numerous awards for her business acumen and commitment to the community. She has been named a New York Metro Area Super Lawyer, a Top 10 Legal Eagle on Long Island, a New York Law Journal “Top Women in Law,” a member of Hofstra’s “Outstanding Women in Law,” and more. Under her direction, the firm was recently awarded the HIA-LI 2018 Business Achievement Award. She is the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation and serves on the Board of Directors of United Way of Long Island. Along with publishing numerous articles for professional journals, she has been featured in both local and national media and is frequently quoted in The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Newsday, New York Law Journal and more. She has appeared as a guest on major broadcast networks (WNBC, WABC, CNN, News 12 Long Island) and has been featured on many radio stations in the region speaking on key legal issues relating to seniors.
Jennifer is a resident of Cold Spring Harbor.
