Jennifer B. Cona, Esq., managing partner of Cona Elder Law, Melville, was named a Super Lawyer in the 2014 New York Metro Super Lawyers publication.  The Super Lawyers annual list will also be included as a special section in The New York Times on October 5th.

As director of the firm’s Elder Law department, Ms. Cona practices exclusively in the field of Elder Law, including representing elderly clients and their families in connection with Medicaid planning, preservation of assets, estate planning, estate litigation, probate and administration of estates, special needs planning, Veterans benefits and guardianships.  Ms. Cona also oversees the Health Care Reimbursement and Recovery practice group.  As a client advocate, she has successfully argued against healthcare budget cuts affecting the elderly and works to secure and ensure a payment source for long term health care, working together with both families and health care facilities to sustain quality care for seniors.

Ms. Cona is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards for her business acumen and commitment to the community. Ms. Cona was recently awarded the “Leadership in Law” award by Long Island Business News.  She was also named one of the “Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business” by Long Island Business News.  In 1997 and again in 2010, she was featured in Long Island Business News’ “Who’s Who in Women in Professional Services” and was named as one of four attorneys in its “Ones to Watch” column.  In 2003, she received the “40 Under 40 Rising Stars on Long Island” awardIn 2004, Ms. Cona was honored by Touro Law School with the “Outstanding Pro Bono Attorney” award for her legal services provided to a severely disabled woman.

Ms. Cona serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees and the Legal Advisory Board of the Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation (“LIAF”) .  She is the founder and chair of the Advanced Elder Law Focus Group, an industry think-tank.  Ms. Cona is a New York State Certified Guardian, Court Evaluator and Counsel to incapacitated persons and is accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the preparation, presentation and prosecution of claims for Veterans benefits.  She is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (“NAELA”), the Elder Law and Trusts and Estates Sections of the New York State Bar Association and Nassau County Bar Association, and the Estate Planning Council of Nassau County.  Ms. Cona is a frequent author and lecturer, addressing both local and national professional organizations and community groups.

Ms. Cona has been featured in many publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Newsday, The New York Law Journal, Long Island Business News, Kiplinger’s and Reader’s Digest.  She has appeared as a guest on WNBC-TV, CNN-fn, Fox 5 News, News 12 LI, WLNY-News 55, Channel 21 – “Act II with Newsday”, WBLI Radio, WBAB, WOR-“The Dolans” and WFAN, to name a few.

Ms. Cona received her Juris Doctor Degree with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree cum laude and with high honors from William Smith College.
